Digital color printing machines range from the compact HP iJetColor 1175 at up to 7,000 #10 envelopes per hour to the HP iJetColor 1275 Pro at up to 20,000 envelopes per hour. Speed depends on the print technology—HP PageWide thermal inkjet or the HP TIJ 4.0 printbar—and the specific model, with higher speeds suited for high-volume direct mail operations.

Depending on the model, these machines print on standard #9 and #10 envelopes, remit and peel/stick envelopes, catalog envelopes, direct mail pieces, letterhead, and thicker packaging substrates such as paper bags and small corrugate up to 1/2" thick on the 1175 Pro + PXG.

Return depends on your volume, average order value, and how much envelope work you currently outsource. For short-run envelope production, an in-house iJetColor press is faster and more profitable than offset, outsourcing, or toner, and reduced makeready time means more of each shift is spent printing billable work.
